Penance Copper - crappy home life with a history of exploitation and abuse. She'd like to be normal, with a happy normal life, but it just isn't going to happen. So instead, she watches carefully, sleeps lightly, smiles sweetly - and punches really, really hard.

She has the ability to generate a plasma field around her body through psychic direction and the chemistry of her skin usually keeps her insulated so she doesn't burn herself. She is much stronger than she looks, and is a capable - and unethical - fighter.

None of this helps her against her father, Acid, who is - or was - just as powerful. He's been training her to take over his work as an assassin specializing in killing other super-powered individuals, and her first assignment is soon.

She can hardly comprehend a life where she isn't his pawn. Her  vague memories of her loving mother lead her spirit to rebel, but her heart is full of fear.

Will she find the strength to leave and strike out on her own for a better life? And will she ever truly belong anywhere?
